Older batches have had more time to fail. Newer batches show higher survival rates, which will decrease over time as companies run out of runway.
B2B dominates YC's recent portfolio. The top 8 industries by company count, with survival rates and total companies.
AI went from 18% of W21 to 74% of S25. Agentic AI (companies building autonomous agents) went from 2% to 41% in 4 years.
12 verticals analyzed by keyword matching on company descriptions. DevTools and Fintech dominate, but Automotive (117), Aerospace (70), and MedTech (381) show deep specialization.
Team size is the best public proxy for revenue. W21 companies now average 44.8 employees vs 2.5 for Sp25. The 50+ employee companies are the breakout winners.

Transparency about sources and estimation methods. All valuations are estimates based on public benchmarks, not insider data.
Company data sourced from the jeffboudier/yc-companies-august-2025 HuggingFace dataset, which aggregates publicly available YC company directory data. Enriched with public funding data and status tracking.
Valuations are estimated using standard venture benchmarks: seed-stage post-money valuations ($15M-$22.5M), combined with known funding rounds and industry-specific revenue multiples (B2B: 12x, Fintech: 10x, Healthcare: 8x, Consumer: 6x).
top_tier = publicly known large rounds or high growth. mid_tier = raised seed, showing traction. lower_tier = early stage, limited public data. dead = confirmed inactive. acquired = confirmed acquisition.
Survival rate = (Active + Acquired) / Total. Companies marked "Inactive" on the YC directory are counted as dead. Acquired companies are counted as surviving since they returned value to investors.
Where public funding data is unavailable, estimates are based on YC's standard deal ($500K for 7%) plus median seed rounds for the batch vintage. Top-tier companies use actual reported funding amounts when available.
This is a best-effort estimate, not audited financials. Private company valuations are inherently uncertain. Recent batches (2024-2025) show inflated survival rates because companies have not yet had enough time to fail. Data refreshed periodically.
